Taylor Swift’s scheduled concerts in Vienna have been canceled following the arrest of two individuals suspected of planning terrorist attacks. The concerts, which were part of Swift’s “Eras Tour,” were set to take place at Ernst Happel Stadium.
Concert promoter Barracuda Music announced the cancellations in response to the confirmed threat. “With confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone’s safety,” the company stated.
The suspects, including a 19-year-old with alleged ISIS ties, were arrested in Ternitz and Vienna. According to Franz Ruf, Public Security Director of Austria’s Interior Ministry, authorities had identified “preparatory actions” indicative of a potential attack. The 19-year-old suspect had reportedly sworn allegiance to ISIS, while the second suspect was radicalized online.
Authorities also confiscated toxic chemical materials from a residence linked to the suspects, which are currently being assessed. Ruf noted that the suspects had specifically targeted Taylor Swift’s concerts as potential sites for their attacks.
In response to the threat, security measures at Ernst Happel Stadium have been significantly bolstered, including enhanced entry checks and increased vigilance. Despite these precautions, the decision to cancel the concerts was made to ensure the safety of fans and staff.
Taylor Swift was scheduled to perform on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Fans who purchased tickets are advised to monitor official channels for updates regarding refunds and potential rescheduling.
This situation highlights the persistent threat of terrorism and the importance of maintaining rigorous security measures at public events. As investigations continue, the focus remains on preventing further threats and ensuring the safety of the public.
