President Donald Trump revealed in a recent interview that he would consider offering tech mogul Elon Musk a Cabinet position if Musk expressed interest. The former president praised Musk’s intellect, calling him a “brilliant guy” who would be a valuable addition to his team. Trump made the comments during a Monday interview after the two had a discussion on Musk’s social media platform, X.
Trump’s remarks came as Musk continues to show his support for Trump’s 2024 campaign. Although Musk denied directly contributing to Trump’s campaign, he did admit to backing a pro-Trump political action committee. The possibility of Musk playing an official role in a future Trump administration could further strengthen their partnership.
During the same interview, Trump also expressed reservations about the $7,500 tax credit for electric vehicles, a stance that could raise eyebrows given Musk’s leadership at Tesla. While Trump said he remains a fan of electric vehicles, he emphasized his support for all types of cars, including gasoline-powered and hybrid vehicles. He left the door open on whether he would scrap the credit, stating, “I’m not making any final decisions on it.”
Trump’s comments also touched on his broader economic strategy, which includes encouraging foreign automakers to manufacture cars in the U.S. “We will make our own cars,” Trump said, adding that he wants to see American workers benefit from any new plants established by international companies.
