Trump Orders Expansion Of Migrant Detention Center At Guantanamo Bay

The Trump administration is moving forward with plans to expand a migrant detention facility at Guantanamo Bay to house thousands of illegal immigrants considered high-priority security risks. The decision marks a significant escalation in efforts to remove criminal aliens from the United States.

President Donald Trump revealed the plan on Wednesday, directing the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security to prepare the facility to accommodate up to 30,000 individuals. “Most people don’t even know that we have 30,000 beds in Guantanamo to detain the worst criminal illegal aliens threatening the American people,” Trump said.

The facility at Guantanamo Bay has historically been used to detain terror suspects but has also housed migrants in the past. The administration’s border czar, Tom Homan, pointed out that a migrant center has existed at the base for decades and that the new plan is merely an expansion of its capacity.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth explained that the facility will be used as a transit center where detainees will be processed and sent back to their countries of origin. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem reiterated that the administration is committed to using every available tool to ensure the swift removal of dangerous individuals.

Since taking office, Trump’s administration has already deported more than 7,300 illegal immigrants, focusing on those with serious criminal records. He has also signed multiple executive orders aimed at strengthening border security and immigration enforcement.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel condemned the decision, arguing that the base is being used to carry out “illegal detentions” on Cuban soil. The Trump administration, however, has dismissed these objections, maintaining that the facility is an essential tool for keeping American communities safe.
