Trump Narrows VP List To Three Candidates

Former President Donald Trump is reportedly close to announcing his running mate for the 2024 election, with a decision expected before the Republican National Convention. The campaign has downplayed speculation, but the Washington Post reports that the shortlist includes Sens. J.D. Vance (R-OH), Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND).

On Meet the Press, Vance said he has yet to receive a call about the VP position. “We’ll let the media know if I ever get that call,” he stated, emphasizing his focus on supporting Trump’s campaign. Vance added that Trump has many qualified individuals to choose from for the role.

Rubio, appearing on CNN, also redirected questions about the VP pick to Trump’s campaign. He expressed his willingness to assist in any capacity. Both senators refrained from fueling speculation, maintaining the decision’s confidentiality.

Trump is scheduled to hold rallies in Miami, Florida, on Tuesday and in Butler, Pennsylvania, next weekend. These events are anticipated to draw significant attention as the Republican Party gears up for the convention.

The selection of Trump’s running mate has been a hot topic in the election cycle. However, it has been overshadowed recently by calls for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the race following a debate performance that raised concerns about his capability to serve another term. This focus on Biden’s mental fitness might influence the timing of Trump’s VP announcement.
