Texas Attorney General Sues Biden-Harris Administration Over Voter Citizenship Verification

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against the Biden-Harris Administration, accusing them of failing to comply with federal law regarding voter citizenship verification. The suit targets Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, demanding the federal government assist Texas in verifying the citizenship status of nearly 450,000 registered voters whose eligibility may be in question.

Paxton’s office issued a formal request on October 7, urging the federal government to verify the citizenship of individuals who registered to vote without providing a Texas-issued driver’s license or identification card. Paxton argues that while many of these voters are likely citizens, federal law requires verification to ensure that noncitizens are not registered.

In a tweet, Paxton emphasized the importance of this lawsuit for election integrity, stating, “The Biden-Harris Administration has refused to comply with federal law, presenting yet another obstacle for Texas to overcome in ensuring free and fair elections in our state. Since they have chosen to ignore the law, I will see them in court.”

The Texas Secretary of State has joined Paxton’s office as a co-plaintiff in the case, marking another effort by state officials to secure election integrity ahead of upcoming elections.
