A Chinese national, Zijie Li, is being held without bond after police say he attempted to enter President-elect Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. Li, 39, has a history of trespassing at the property and was arrested Thursday after arriving at the estate’s entrance in an Uber.
Li’s arrest follows a series of incidents involving law enforcement at or near Mar-a-Lago. In July, he first attempted to access the estate, telling Secret Service agents he had information linking China to an assassination attempt on Trump. Days later, he was arrested for two additional attempts to enter the property.

Court records show Li was ordered to stay away from Mar-a-Lago as a condition of his release. However, he continued to violate the order, most recently approaching a homeowner near the estate last week and asking for help gaining access. Authorities placed him in a mental hospital, where he was held until Thursday.
After his release, Li returned to Mar-a-Lago and was arrested again. His bail for the prior trespassing charge was subsequently revoked. He now faces two counts of misdemeanor trespassing.

Mar-a-Lago has experienced several security breaches over the years, including incidents involving other Chinese nationals. In one case, Yujing Zhang entered the property in 2019 with electronic equipment, sparking concerns about espionage. She was later convicted of trespassing and deported.
The Palm Beach County Public Defender’s Office, which is representing Li, has not commented on the case. His repeated attempts to access Mar-a-Lago have raised questions about security at the high-profile estate.
