Pelosi Advocates For Biden’s Place On Mount Rushmore, Faces Backlash

Nancy Pelosi, the former House Speaker and prominent Democrat, has proposed adding President Joe Biden to Mount Rushmore, a suggestion that has provoked strong reactions. In a CBS News interview, Pelosi praised Biden’s presidency, suggesting his achievements deserve recognition alongside the nation’s most esteemed leaders.

Pelosi lauded Biden as “a Mount Rushmore kind of president,” highlighting his consequential role in shaping the country. “He was in a good place to make whatever decision – the top of his game,” she asserted.

CBS host Lesley Stahl expressed surprise at Pelosi’s proposal, questioning the comparison. “Are you really saying that he belongs up there on Mount Rushmore? Lincoln and Joe Biden?” Stahl asked.

Pelosi defended her stance by referring to the existing figures on Mount Rushmore, including Teddy Roosevelt. “I don’t say take him down. But you can add Biden,” she argued.

The idea of placing Biden on Mount Rushmore has sparked intense debate, particularly among those who criticize his presidency. Opponents argue that his policies have caused significant harm to the country, making such an honor seem unwarranted.

During the interview, Pelosi also addressed speculation about her role in encouraging Biden to reconsider his 2024 candidacy. “No, I wasn’t the leader of any pressure [campaign],” she said. “I didn’t call one person. I could always say to him, ‘I never called anybody.’”

Despite her public denial, CNN reported that Pelosi had privately advised Biden that he would struggle to defeat former President Donald Trump due to poor poll numbers. According to these reports, she warned that staying in the race could endanger the Democratic Party’s hold on power.

Pelosi was similarly evasive when questioned by MSNBC about whether Biden should drop out of the race. “I want him to do whatever he decides to do, and that’s the way it is,” she responded. “Whatever he decides, we go with.”

The conversation between Pelosi and Biden, whether it was in person or over the phone, reportedly included other high-profile Democrats such as former President Barack Obama and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY).

Pelosi’s suggestion to add Biden to Mount Rushmore has intensified discussions about his presidency and its impact on the nation. As political discourse continues, this proposal has highlighted the varying perspectives on Biden’s legacy and the criteria for national honors.
