NY Assemblyman Claims Chinese Communist Party Tried To Interfere In His Election

Queens state Assemblyman Ron Kim has accused the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) of attempting to influence the outcome of his primary race in New York’s 40th District.

Kim, a Democrat, says there were clear signs of foreign interference, with groups tied to mainland China and the CCP trying to sway the election in favor of his opponent.

In an exclusive interview with The New York Post, Kim stated, “There were clear patterns of foreign influence trying to dictate the outcome of the election — groups with ties to mainland China and the CCP. They were trying to steal the Flushing seat.” Kim’s remarks come amid growing concerns over the CCP’s expanding influence in the U.S., especially following the arrest of Linda Sun, a former top aide to New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and Andrew Cuomo, who is accused of working as an agent for the CCP.

Sun and her husband, Christopher Hu, face charges of being unregistered foreign agents, accused of laundering millions in kickbacks to purchase luxury properties and vehicles. Kim’s opponent in the 40th District primary, Yi Andy Chen, received backing from the American Chinese Commerce Association, an organization reportedly tied to the CCP.

Kim, who narrowly won his first nomination battle in 2012, warned that the CCP’s influence in U.S. politics is growing. Despite this, he says most of the Chinese community in his district is anti-communist and loyal to American values, but a new wave of CCP-linked groups is making inroads.
