Nancy Pelosi Calls Report of Economic Shrinkage an ‘Aberration,’ Dodges Question About Midterms

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is trying to brush the latest bad economic news aside, claiming it was just an “aberration” while dodging a reporter’s question about how the news will affect the upcoming midterm elections.

During a Friday press briefing, Pelosi was asked about a report showing that the economy had shrunk by 1.4% in the first quarter of 2022.

“Is this going to have any effect on the 2022 election come November, the midterms?” the reporter asked.

“Well, the — I think this is an aberration,” Pelosi claimed.

“There are plenty of other statistics and analyses that have said this is an aberration, and there are many other factors that show that we have growth in our near future,” she added. “But what we’re worried about is what it means to the kitchen table, again, not to the election, but to the kitchen table of America’s working families.”

Pelosi then went on to try to list what she touted as President Joe Biden’s accomplishments, without actually answering the question of whether the country’s economic troubles would disadvantage Democrats in the midterm elections.

“This is a President that has, under his leadership, eight million jobs — eight million jobs in one year. Again, a large part of that comes from the private sector. We respect that,” she said.

“And again, when that happens – inflation goes up when you have unemployment going down. As we said, when you have supply chain issues, costs go up because supply goes down,” Pelosi added.

Alongside the economic shrinkage, the stock market continued to nosedive at the close of market on Friday. The Nasdaq index dropped by a shocking 4.2% just on Friday, extending its losses and marking its worst month in 14 years.

It’s hard to see how Biden, Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats can avoid the blame for the abysmal economic news under their watch, despite their best efforts to sweep it under the rug and place the blame on everyone except themselves. Adding this report to the staggering inflation, skyrocketing gas prices, and the supply chain crisis, it looks like the American people will be heading to the polls with a pretty easy decision to make in November if they want to save their wallets from further hardship.
