Man Accused Of Assaulting Trump Supporter In New York Over Political Hat

In Bath, New York, a 60-year-old man was arrested for allegedly attacking a Trump supporter at a grocery store over a “Trump 2024” hat. The suspect, identified as Robert Yott, reportedly left the victim with a bloodied mouth and broken teeth after repeatedly punching him, according to local police.

The Village of Bath Police Department reports that the incident occurred on November 1 at Tops Friendly Markets. Authorities say Yott became confrontational upon seeing the Trump hat and launched into an attack, targeting the victim’s head and face. Police stated that the suspect and the victim did not know each other, calling it a random act of political violence.

Yott has been charged with second-degree assault, a Class D felony, and fourth-degree criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor. He was taken to Steuben County Jail and is awaiting arraignment, the police department reported.

This incident is part of a trend of reported assaults on Trump supporters. In June, a Massachusetts man, 82, was allegedly attacked over a Trump sign, and earlier in April, a New Jersey man was hospitalized after being attacked with a sledgehammer for displaying pro-Trump messages.

Law enforcement continues to monitor and respond to politically motivated violence. Bath police are encouraging citizens to report any similar incidents. Yott is currently being held in Steuben County Jail as the investigation and legal process continue.
