Greene Criticizes Newsom’s Taxpayer-Funded Health Coverage For Illegal Immigrants

Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia has denounced the Biden administration for allowing a record number of illegal immigrants into the United States, calling it “treason.”

In a social media post, Greene raised concerns about California’s plan to provide free healthcare to illegal immigrants. Greene stated, “California is going to give illegals free healthcare, but nothing is free; the California taxpayers have to pay for it.”

Expressing immense frustration about the border crisis, she also mentioned her desire to pursue impeachment but acknowledged the challenges in garnering the necessary votes. She questioned whether a tax revolt could be a viable solution to address the issue.

Starting January 1, 2024, California will offer free healthcare to any qualifying individuals regardless of immigration status, amid a projected $68 billion budget deficit in the upcoming fiscal year. Approximately 700,000 illegal immigrants aged 26-49 are expected to receive full medical coverage under the plan.

Sally Pipes, a healthcare policy expert and President of the Pacific Research Institute, also criticized the careless move. “Now that California is struggling to make ends meet, using taxpayer money to cover non-citizens is simply irresponsible.”

Simon Hankinson, a border security and immigration expert at the Heritage Foundation, expressed very little surprise at California’s decision despite a budget deficit. He questioned when and how the state would seek federal taxpayer assistance. He also mentioned that other states like New York, Illinois and Massachusetts might follow suit.

Greene’s critical remarks followed a Fox News report revealing that Customs and Border Patrol reported over 276,000 migrant encounters at the southern border in December alone — marking a record high.

Melugin highlighted the worsening crisis, with over 760,000 migrant encounters since October 1, making it the highest ever recorded for the first quarter of fiscal year 2024.

Recent data also indicated that more people have entered the US illegally since August than the number of children born in the country. Elon Musk, CEO of X, commented that it is already overwhelming essential services in cities like New York and Chicago. He stated, “Almost no one seems to be aware of the immense size and lightning growth of this issue.”
