Former Prosecutor Says Cohen Admitted To Having No Honest Evidence Implicating Trump

According to testimony before Congress on Wednesday by Robert Costello, a former federal prosecutor, Michael Cohen confessed to having “nothing truthful” showing former President Donald Trump’s guilt in any crime. Costello represented Cohen when he was under investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

“I swear to God Bob I don’t have anything on Donald Trump” Costello quoted Cohen as telling him repeatedly. This contradicts claims Cohen made on the witness stand during Trump’s ongoing Manhattan trial.

In his appearance before the House Judiciary Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government Costello characterized Cohen as being on a “revenge tour” against Trump, stating he lacks credibility. He said Cohen blames Trump for the loss of his law license and his imprisonment.

Cohen had testified that Trump instructed him to arrange payment for a nondisclosure agreement with adult film actress Stormy Daniels and green-lighted plans to reimburse him. Trump faces charges of falsifying business records stemming from these allegations in a case brought by Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg.

Though Cohen claimed on Tuesday that Costello offered to establish “backchannel” communications between him and Trump via Rudy Giuliani Costello told the subcommittee he informed Cohen in 2018 he could quickly resolve his legal problems if he had honest evidence implicating Trump.

“Throughout this two-hour interview Michael Cohen made clear that this payment to Daniels was his own idea designed to try and get him back into the inner circle of Trump people in Washington” Costello testified.

Costello also addressed the broader issue of “lawfare” targeting Trump saying that in his five decades as an attorney he has “never seen the types of politically motivated cases that have been brought in this Presidential Election season.”

Cohen is expected to retake the witness stand on Thursday for further cross-examination by Trump’s defense team.
