Florida Man Arrested For Planning Attack Against NYSE In Anti-Government Scheme

A Florida man has been arrested on charges of plotting to bomb the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) as part of a self-proclaimed effort to “reboot” the U.S. government. Harun Abdul-Malik Yener, 29, was charged with attempting to use an improvised explosive device (IED) to destroy a building used in interstate or foreign commerce, following an investigation by the FBI.

The investigation into Yener began in February after authorities received a tip about suspicious activity involving bomb-making materials in a storage unit in Coral Springs, Florida. Upon executing a search warrant, the FBI discovered bomb-making blueprints, timers, and other equipment in the unit, which could have been used to build explosive devices. Yener’s online history also revealed numerous searches related to bomb-making going back as far as 2017.

In September, the FBI set up a meeting with Yener through an undercover agent, whom he believed to be part of a militia group. During their interactions, Yener allegedly discussed his plans to target the NYSE with a bomb, specifically naming November 18 as the date for his attack. He also recorded a message that was intended to be sent to the media after the attack, explaining his motivations for the plot.

In the recorded message, Yener reportedly identified himself with extremist ideologies, comparing his actions to those of infamous terrorist Osama bin Laden. “Our war is with the government,” Yener allegedly stated, encouraging others to join his violent cause. He also issued threats, stating that anyone who spoke against them would face brutal retaliation.

Yener’s extremist views were further highlighted by his previous encounters with groups like ISIS and his interest in joining groups like the Boogaloo Boys. However, he was reportedly turned away due to his desire for martyrdom, which further demonstrates his commitment to violence and radical change.

This arrest underscores the growing domestic terrorism threat in the U.S., highlighting the dangers posed by individuals radicalized within the country. As the FBI continues to investigate Yener’s activities, it serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance and proactive measures to prevent acts of domestic violence and extremism.
