DeSantis Launches Needed Independent Investigation Into Trump Assassination Attempt

Gov. Ron DeSantis has taken control of the investigation into the second assassination attempt on President Donald Trump, expressing concerns about federal investigators’ ability to handle the case impartially. DeSantis signed an executive order assigning the investigation to Florida’s Attorney General’s Office and state law enforcement agencies, excluding federal authorities from leading the probe.

At a press conference, DeSantis explained that the same federal agencies prosecuting Trump should not be investigating an attempt on his life. “Florida is in a better position to provide the answers the public deserves,” he stated. The governor emphasized that the crime violates state law, giving Florida the authority to pursue more serious charges.

Ryan Routh, the suspect, was arrested near Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course while armed with a rifle. Federal prosecutors have charged Routh with gun violations, but DeSantis criticized the charges as insufficient, suggesting there may be deeper connections between Routh and foreign or intelligence forces.

Attorney General Ashley Moody echoed DeSantis’s concerns, promising a thorough investigation to ensure accountability. “We will uncover the facts and provide transparency,” she said, noting that the public deserves answers.

DeSantis also expressed frustration with past federal investigations, including the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, which left many questions unresolved. He vowed that Florida’s investigation would be different, ensuring a full and transparent process that restores public confidence.
