Democrats’ Green Energy Agenda Risks US Dependence On China, Report Claims

A new report from the Heritage Foundation asserts that the Biden-Harris administration’s push for green energy is making America dangerously reliant on China. The report argues that Democrats’ massive investments in renewable energy technologies—such as solar panels, wind turbines, and electric vehicles (EVs)—are handing China control over key supply chains, putting the U.S. at both a tactical and economic disadvantage.

China dominates the global supply chains for many of the raw materials and components needed to produce green energy technologies, including rare earth minerals and battery components. According to the report, authored by Diana Furchtgott-Roth and Miles Pollard, the U.S. risks ceding economic power and energy security to China by continuing down its current path.

The report criticizes the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which included hundreds of billions of dollars in green energy subsidies. The authors argue that competing with China’s state-subsidized industries through U.S. subsidies is futile and will only increase America’s reliance on foreign resources.

Instead, the report recommends repealing green energy tax credits and subsidies, focusing instead on expanding domestic mining and fossil fuel production. It also suggests improving commercial ties with resource-rich nations in Africa and South America, while using tariffs to counter China’s unfair trade practices.

The analysis warns that America’s growing dependence on Chinese-produced green technologies is a national security threat, especially as the U.S. becomes more reliant on renewable energy. Critics argue that the Biden-Harris administration’s green agenda sacrifices American jobs, slows economic growth, and undermines national security — all while enriching China.
