A large contingent of Border Patrol agents are preparing to tender their resignations if Kamala Harris is elected president in November. Agents have voiced frustration with the Biden-Harris administration’s approach to border security, with one agent describing the last four years as “hell.” Many agents who are eligible to retire plan to do so if Harris wins, though some say they will stay if Donald Trump wins.
The National Border Patrol Union recently endorsed Trump, warning that Harris’ policies will lead to chaos across the country. Border agents argue that the current administration has made their jobs more difficult by releasing criminals who cross the border, undermining their efforts to secure the nation’s borders.

Yuma Border Patrol Chief Chris Clem noted that morale among agents is at an all-time low, with Harris’ recent campaign ads only making things worse. In her ads, Harris claims to support border security, but agents believe her administration’s policies have done the opposite.
Since the Biden-Harris administration took office, illegal immigration has reached unprecedented levels. More than 10 million people have crossed the southern border, and an estimated 1.7 million “gotaways” have entered the country undetected. As a result, many agents feel their efforts have been undermined.

Harris has tried to shift her messaging on immigration, releasing ads that emphasize her experience as a prosecutor and her support for increasing the number of Border Patrol agents. However, agents remain skeptical of these claims, with many prepared to leave their jobs if she wins in November.
