Biden Center Held Bootcamp Regarding Engagement With China

The Penn Biden Center, a Washington, D.C., think tank where classified documents were found after Joe Biden left office as vice president, held a two-day “bootcamp” for congressional staffers last June pushing for deeper U.S.-China ties, prompting concerns about security at the center where the documents were stored at the time.

According to The Washington Free Beacon, the purpose of the event was to push for closer ties with China on issues like green energy and academia.

The event, taking place at the University of Pennsylvania, took in tens of millions of donations from Chinese entities, many of which remained anonymous, reported the Daily Wire.

UPenn’s website stated that 2 fellows from the Penn Project on the Future of U.S.-China Relations would speak at the event, funded by Penn’s China Research and Engagement Fund.

Featured on the group’s advisory board is Kaiser Kuo, who according to Newsmax is a former spokesman for tech giant Baidu. He now serves as editor for a large news outlet called China Project, a group facing a probe from members of Congress.

The report by The Free Beacon revealed there were no security officials working at Penn Biden during the conference last June and that numerous people were able to tour the building unmonitored.

Rebeccah Heinrichs, a national security expert and senior fellow at the Hudson Institute opined it is “incredibly alarming” that outside put on events at the Penn Biden Center while it contained those papers.

“The fact that [the documents] were not secured, [were] open and uncared for, and also that you had this other activity going on inside this facility, with individuals that may not have the best interests of the American people at heart, is shocking,” said she said, adding she is curious to learn more about the workshops.

Newsmax has indicated that the university has not answered requests for comments on the two-day event, which was put on by its Center for the Study of Contemporary China, the Penn Project on the Future of U.S.-China Relations, and the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

Another report by The Free Beacon indicated that the House Foreign Affairs Committee is now looking into why foreign funding to UPenn allegedly tripled after it teamed up w/ Biden.
